Cuban Spanish Academy
Find a Cuban cultural story in Academy Extra
Find a remembered Cuban food story in Extra by starting with one recognisable word. Narrow the content type, check the matching card and open the article. This guide uses caldosa, a story already published on Cuban Spanish Classes, to walk through the Academy’s cultural reading collection.
Open Extra in your member campus
Extra brings articles and videos into the member campus. Enter the campus with your existing learner access and choose Extra in its navigation. You can then search the collection from the cards.
The caldosa story used here is also available on Cuban Spanish Classes. Use that linked public article when you want to read it directly, or browse the Academy’s public learning hub for more guides.
Search with one useful word
In Extra’s content-search field, try caldosa. A specific word from a remembered title gives you a clear starting point. Look through the returned titles and descriptions to find the story you want.
For a different story, replace caldosa with a recognisable part of its title. Keep the first search short. You can refine the word after seeing which cards appear in the results.
Choose Articles for a written story
The content-type selector offers All, Videos and Articles. Choose Articles for this reading task. The search word and the type filter work together, helping you focus on written content about the subject.
Your campus may show these labels in English or Spanish: All, Videos and Articles, or Todo, Videos and Artículos. Use the matching article option shown alongside your search field.
Check the card and open the reader
Use the title, description and displayed item date to recognise the card you want. For this example, look for the caldosa story. Open the article from its card or title.
The story opens in the campus reader. Read the heading to confirm your choice, then continue through the text. Use the reader’s close control when you want to return to the cards.
Follow one detail as you read
With caldosa, choose a concrete detail to follow: how the soup is described, for example. Keep the food name in Spanish while you explain that detail in the language you understand best.
As your own short practice, write “La caldosa es una sopa espesa” on paper. Return to the description in the article and check how your sentence expresses it. You can try another sentence with a different detail from the story.
Adjust an empty search and keep exploring
If no results appear, check the typed word, try a shorter term or return the type selector to All. When results span several pages, use the available page buttons to continue through them.
After closing the reader, change the search word to find another cultural story. You can also return to your course through the campus navigation, or use the linked public article and learning hub to keep reading.
